Western Alberta Wildfires - Sturgeon Lake Complex - may 2023

On May 5th, 2023, a grass fire started just west of Valleyview, Alberta - where my home is. The Sturgeon Lake Complex Wildfires eventually grew into one fire with a total area of almost 24,000 acres. The town of Valleyview got evacuated on May 15, and when we returned a few days later, the sky was orange. The smoke was thick for a few days, but then, finally, it rained for 3 days straight and assisted firefighting crews in controlling the fires.
